Starbucks Bans Printers and Computers in Southern Korean Cafés

  • Starbucks has banned certain items in its cafés in Southern Korea.
  • Customers can only use laptops and mobile devices.
  • The ban is related to the problem of space abuse in the establishments.

The company Starbucks announced the ban on using stationary computers, printers, and other large items in its cafés in Southern Korea. This decision was made after some customers converted cafés into offices, establishing temporary workplaces and occupying space for extended periods.

In Starbucks establishments, customers are prohibited from using large items that restrict space for other visitors. However, customers can bring laptops, tablets, and mobile phones. This rule applies to so-called "cagongjok," people who work or study in cafés.

Café owners in Southern Korea complain that "cagongjok" negatively impacts the ambiance, occupying space and abusing electricity, sitting in establishments for hours, purchasing only one drink. Many users on social media support Starbucks' new policy, believing it helps solve the problem with visitors who do not adhere to etiquette.

A Starbucks representative noted that the company strives to ensure a comfortable environment for all customers. "Starbucks will remain an open space for meetings and communication," he added, emphasizing the importance of shared space.
