On Monday, September 12, 2025, as a result of an attack by the paramilitary group "Rapid Support Forces" (RSF) on a camp for displaced persons in western Sudan, in the Darfur region, at least 40 people were killed.
This attack occurred at the Abu Shuk camp, located near the city of El-Fasher, the last refuge for the army and its allies in the region. According to information from the "Emergency Response Group of Abu Shuk," 19 people received injuries.
In a statement, the coordinator of the UN Office for Humanitarian Affairs in Sudan, Sheldon Yett, noted that civilians have once again become victims of the conflict. He stressed not to attack places where civilians reside.
The situation in the region remains critical. According to reports, the population of El-Fasher has limited access to food, safe water, and medical assistance. More than 60 people have died from starvation over a single week, which is causing a serious humanitarian crisis.
Since the beginning of the conflict in April 2023, as a result of the fighting between the army and the RSF, tens of thousands of people have been killed, and 12 million have been forced to leave their homes. In some regions, there is widespread famine.
The Abu Shuk camp was established over 20 years ago for people fleeing the attacks of the Janjaweed militia, and its residents include those belonging to non-Arab ethnic groups, such as Fur and Zaghawa.
