On August 12, 2025, Syria, Jordan, and the USA held a trilateral meeting to support the enforcement of the ceasefire in the province of Sweida in southern Syria. The meeting took place in Jordan with the participation of ministers of foreign affairs from the three countries.
In a joint statement, the participants highlighted the importance of preserving the rights of the residents of Sweida and the necessity of restoring the state based on security, stability, and sovereignty. They also discussed humanitarian aid issues and the restoration of services in the affected areas.
The Syrian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Faisal al-Miqdad, stated that the Syrian government is ready to cooperate with the UN for the investigation of crimes committed in Sweida and to hold those responsible accountable. Jordan and the USA expressed support for this initiative.
The participants of the meeting also condemned recent airstrikes by Israel, which, in their opinion, threaten regional stability. They agreed on further meetings in the coming weeks to continue discussions aimed at solidifying the ceasefire and resolving the crisis in Sweida.
The sides confirmed that Sweida is an inseparable part of Syria and expressed readiness for joint work to ensure peace and justice in the region.
