US Report Indicates Deterioration of Human Rights in Great Britain
- The US report indicates a deterioration of human rights in Great Britain.
- Restrictions on freedom of speech and instances of antisemitic violence raise concerns.
- The government of Great Britain asserts that it protects freedom of speech and the safety of citizens.
In line with last year's report, prepared by the Trump administration, the situation regarding human rights in Great Britain has worsened over the past year. The document notes that restrictions on freedom of speech have been introduced and recorded instances of violence have been attributed to antisemitism.
The report highlights the laws that restrict free expression, including in so-called safe spaces on campus or abortion clinics. They prohibit even prayer vigils or silent protests near these establishments. In response to instances of antisemitism in the southern port in 2024, the government has introduced measures to limit public expressions, which has drawn criticism.
It is known that representatives of the government of Great Britain stated that freedom of speech is important for democracy, and they strive to ensure the safety of citizens, while the report emphasizes that such actions often lead to censorship.
Criticism also pertains to regulations that restrict political speech, considering it to be either biased or defamatory. Additionally, the report notes that the government effectively enacts laws that protect the rights to assembly and collective negotiations.
Importantly, the report also points to issues with human rights in France and Germany. At the same time, some aspects, such as LGBTQ+ rights, remain a significant concern.
