Cristian Romero has been appointed the new captain of Tottenham Hotspur following the departure of Son Heung-min to LAFC. Romero, who previously served as vice-captain, will now fulfill this new role under the leadership of the new manager Thomas Frank.
Son Heung-min, who captained the team for the last two seasons, left the club after Tottenham won the European League, marking 17 years of trophy expectations. Romero, a 27-year-old defender from Argentina, joined Tottenham from Atalanta in 2021 and established himself as a key player for the team.
Thomas Frank expressed confidence in Romero's abilities, stating that he possesses all the necessary qualities for leadership. "This is a great opportunity – to bring this wonderful team onto the field," said Frank. He also plans to form a leadership group with several players to assist Romero in his new role.
Regardless of speculation regarding a possible transfer, Romero remains with the club and is now preparing for the start of the season in the Premier League, where Tottenham will play against Burnley on Saturday.
