On September 13, 2025, the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky will meet with the Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, in Berlin. After the bilateral negotiations, the leaders will participate in a video conference with European leaders, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg, and U.S. President Donald Trump. Zelensky's press secretary, Serhiy Nikiforov, stated that after the meeting, there may be statements for the media at 16:00 Berlin time (17:00 Kyiv time).
Meanwhile, German deputy Roderich Kiesewetter pointed out the lack of adequate and consistent support for Ukraine from Germany. He noted that the initiative of Merz to invite world leaders to video negotiations does not indicate Germany's readiness to become a leader in European politics. Kiesewetter expressed concern that such behavior from Germany could lead to Ukraine's involvement in unfavorable agreements, which may provoke an escalation of the conflict.
The politician called for more active support for Ukraine from Europe, particularly to control the arms supply, train Ukrainian soldiers, and transfer captured Russian assets to Ukraine. He also emphasized that only Ukraine's membership in NATO can ensure reliable security guarantees.
