France, Germany, and the United Kingdom informed the UN about their readiness to reinstate sanctions against Iran if the country does not resume negotiations regarding its nuclear program by the end of September 2025.
These three countries, known as E3, stated that they are ready to activate the "snapback" mechanism, which provides for the reinstatement of previous sanctions if Iran does not respond to their proposal to extend the negotiation deadline.
In July, Iran expressed readiness for further negotiations, but only on the condition of lifting existing sanctions and recognition of its right to civilian nuclear technology.
The foreign ministers of the three countries sent a letter to the UN, stating that if Iran does not achieve a diplomatic solution by the end of September, E3 is ready to activate the "snapback" mechanism.
They also emphasized the need to utilize all diplomatic means to prevent the development of nuclear weapons in Iran, which the country prohibits.
Sanctions against Iran's nuclear program were lifted in 2015 after the signing of the nuclear agreement, but the USA withdrew from the agreement in 2018, reinstating sanctions.
In June 2025, the International Atomic Energy Agency reported that Iran may have over 400 kg of uranium, enriched to 60% - this level is close to military.
The situation escalated following an Israeli attack on Iran's nuclear facilities in June, which led to the suspension of cooperation between Iran and the IAEA.
Currently, E3 has issued a warning about the consequences of non-compliance with obligations.
