American sprinter Fred Kerley has received a temporary ban for violating anti-doping rules related to not adhering to whereabouts requirements. This was reported by the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) on August 13, 2025.
Kerley, who became the world champion in 2022 in the 100 meters, may receive a two-year ban if the allegations are confirmed. According to the World Anti-Doping Code, the athlete cannot have more than three missed tests or failures to provide his whereabouts over a 12-month period.
Kerley's lawyers stated that he intends to contest the allegations. In their statement, the athlete's representatives emphasized that even one or a few of his missed tests should be recognized as invalid, especially if he was not absent without justification, or the doping control officer did not take reasonable measures to find him at the indicated address.
Kerley also has legal problems, specifically, in July 2025 he was accused of an attack on a woman, who is also an athlete. Earlier, in June, the athlete was detained in Miami under suspicion of an attack on a police officer, during which he used an electric shock weapon.
Kerley won silver at the Olympics in Tokyo in 2020 and bronze at the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024. He is also a six-time world championship medalist.
