Negotiations on the resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza to South Sudan are underway
- Negotiations between Israel and South Sudan are ongoing regarding the resettlement of Palestinians.
- The resettlement plan raises concerns about human rights violations.
- Israel is considering several African countries for the resettlement of Palestinians.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is leading negotiations with South Sudan regarding the possible resettlement of Palestinians from Gaza. This is part of a broader initiative by Israel, aimed at alleviating mass emigration from the territory, which has been affected since the 22-month military operation against Hamas.
According to information from six individuals familiar with the situation, the negotiations are ongoing, but their progress remains unknown. Should the plan be realized, it would lead to the relocation of people from one war-torn region to another, which raises concerns about human rights violations.
Netanyahu stated that he seeks to emulate the approach of U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the resettlement of the population of Gaza through "voluntary migration." Israel is also considering the possibility of resettling Palestinians to other African countries, such as Somalia and Egypt.
Human rights activists and the majority of the international community reject these proposals as a potential form of forced relocation, which constitutes a violation of international law.
Reports indicate that Israel plans to establish camps for Palestinians in South Sudan. Representatives of South Sudan confirmed that negotiations are ongoing, but details remain undisclosed. It is also known that Egypt is actively opposing these plans, seeking to prevent the influx of refugees into its territory.
