- The research is based on testimonies from thousands of witnesses and documents.
Along with the new report prepared by the UN mechanism, the military government in Myanmar has been detaining children for the past two years and subjecting them to torture. This report covers the period from July 1, 2024, to June 30, 2025, and indicates an increasing frequency of military crimes and crimes against humanity.
The research is based on over 1300 sources, including 600 witness testimonies, photographs, and documents. According to the data, children are often detained instead of their parents, who are suspected of supporting the opposition.
It has been noted that children aged from two to 17 years old are subjected to torture, including sexual violence, in military detention facilities. The report also highlights an increase in violence and cruelty in the country, including the bombing of civilian objects.
Nicolas Koumidjian, head of the mechanism, noted that it has been possible to identify some perpetrators, including commanders who lead the detentions. He also emphasized the importance of ensuring that the perpetrators know their actions are under scrutiny.
The military government of Myanmar denies the allegations and claims that it does not commit violence against civilians.
