Russia Plans to Increase Drone Production in 2025

  • Russia plans to produce 79,000 drones in 2025.
  • In July 2025, Russia launched a record number of drones in Ukraine.
  • The production of drones without pilots in Russia is becoming increasingly automated.

This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, RBC Ukraine.

Russia continues to ramp up the production of unmanned aerial vehicles, including drones of the Shahed type. According to Vadym Skibitsky, deputy head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine, in 2025, it is planned to release 79,000 such drones.

Specifically, it is planned to produce 40,000 Geran-2 drones, 5,700 Garpia-1 drones, and approximately 34,000 smaller drones-munitions. Skibitsky noted that Russia is actively developing its production capabilities, having recently opened new production lines in Izhevsk and Yelabuga.

The production of drones is becoming more automated, as Russia seeks to replace imported components. For example, they are already using their own designs for the bodies and engines, as well as navigation systems.

Moreover, in July 2025, Russia also set a new record for the number of drones launched in Ukraine. According to data from the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom, in July, 6,200 drones were launched, exceeding the previous record of 5,600 in June. These drones, unlike rockets, have complicated the operations of the Ukrainian air defense system.

The use of kamikaze drones has become a common tactic in Russian attacks. Unlike them, Russia employs drone-munitions to enhance the effectiveness of attacks. According to intelligence reports, Russian long-range bombers continue to carry out combat missions, launching missiles over Ukraine.

In Ukraine, strategies are being developed to stop the increase in drone production in Russia, utilizing both kinetic and non-kinetic strike methods.
