Severe Rainfall Causes Damage in Southern Korea
- More than 200 mm of rain fell in the city and surrounding areas.
- One person is missing, and more than 60 roads are submerged.

Seoul, South Korea — Severe rainfall has affected the southern region of South Korea in the middle of the week, transforming roads into rivers of brown water and disrupting transportation. The government issued a warning about possible landslides and overflowing water reservoirs and rivers.
According to information from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Safety, one person is missing in the city of Gimpo, not far from the capital Seoul. More than 60 roads were submerged, and at least five buildings were evacuated. Approximately 50 people were forced to evacuate from their homes.
In some districts of Seoul and neighboring cities Gimpo, Goyang, and Incheon, over 200 millimeters (7.8 inches) of rain fell. Residents were trying to save their belongings and used plastic containers to drain water from affected premises.
The meteorological service of South Korea reported that heavy rains are expected to continue in the region overnight and into Thursday. The government closed dozens of parks near rivers and more than 100 tourist routes, warning people about safety concerns related to flooding, landslides, and affected infrastructure.
