Beirut (AP) – President of Livan Joseph Aoun reported that the country is refusing any foreign intervention in its internal affairs. This happened during the visit of the senior Iranian official Ali Laridzhani, who responded to Beirut in response to the decision of the Livan government on the disbandment of Iranian-supported Hezbollah.

Laridzhani, secretary of Iran's National Security Council, is the highest-ranking Iranian official to visit Livan following the government’s vote to support a plan that envisions the disbandment of Hezbollah by the end of the year and the establishment of a ceasefire with Israel. Iran has long supported this plan, during which Hezbollah was reluctant to recognize and promised not to disband.

President Aoun emphasized that Livan seeks cooperation with Iran based on sovereignty and friendship, which should be cultivated on a mutual basis. He also stressed that Iranian-Livanese relations should encompass all the people of Livan, not just one religious confessional group.

After the meeting with Laridzhani, the speaker of the parliament Nabih Berri stated that Iran does not intervene in Livan's internal affairs, accusing the USA of that, claiming that they "advise" the Livanese government to implement the "foreign plan." Laridzhani urged the Livanese to gather "support" and stated that Iran would support Livan in case of escalation from Israel's side.

At Beirut's international airport, hundreds of Hezbollah supporters met Laridzhani, chanting "Death to America" and carrying Iranian flags. Iran has been financing and arming Hezbollah for many years, making it the largest proxy in the region.

Livan reported significant losses during the war with Israel, which ended in July, resulting in the death of more than 4,000 people, while the reconstruction of the country costs nearly 11 billion dollars. Recently, Livanese officials have expressed concern about the influence of Iran on Livan's internal affairs, including the prevention of foreign intervention.
