The number of fatalities in the shipwreck near Lampedusa has increased
- As a result of the disaster, people have been missing from among the migrants.
- The search for the deceased and the missing continues.
- Nearly 60 individuals were rescued and were injured.
Rome (AP) — A ship carrying nearly 100 migrants sank near the Italian island of Lampedusa, resulting in at least 20 fatalities, while another 12 are presumed missing, reported the UNHCR.
Among the rescued 60 individuals were taken to a center on Lampedusa, according to the words of the UNHCR representative in Italy, Filippo Ungaro. Along with the reports of the rescued, there were between 92 to 97 migrants on board when the ship capsized from Libya. Authorities have already found 20 bodies, and the search continues for another 12-17 individuals, as noted by the UNHCR.
