In Chattanooga, Tennessee, a mother, father, and their child died when a tree fell on their car during a severe storm and flooding. The incident occurred in the vicinity of East Ridge near the state line, reported a representative from the Emergency Management Agency of Hamilton County, Emily Maxvell.

Currently, there is no known damage from the flooding. Officials plan to assess the damage in the East Ridge area in the middle of the week. Flooded areas were closed to rescue operations for people who were stranded in their homes and vehicles in the aftermath. The mayor of Hamilton County, Weston Umphrey, announced the local state of emergency in East Ridge on Wednesday due to the rapid flooding and urged people to be very cautious.

The National Weather Service issued a warning about flooding for most of central Tennessee until Wednesday evening, warning of the possibility of rapid flooding due to torrential rains.

Rescue teams in Chattanooga helped residents trapped in vehicles and homes that were caught in the deluge. Parts of Interstate 24 were closed due to flooding, but were reopened after the water levels dropped.

Rescue teams saved residents from three homes in East Ridge that were trapped due to rising water levels. Sheriff Ostina Garrett stated that the flooding was more extensive than he had seen previously, emphasizing that it usually concentrates in one area.
