Apple Denies Elon Musk's Accusations of App Store Bias

  • Apple has denied accusations of bias in the App Store.
  • Elon Musk is pursuing legal actions against Apple.
  • Other AI applications have achieved success in App Store rankings.

This is reported by Mezha, TechCrunch.

Apple responded to Elon Musk's accusations of bias in the App Store, stating that the platform is "fair and unbiased." In a comment to Bloomberg, the company explained that the promotion of applications occurs through rankings, algorithmic recommendations, and expert selections based on objective criteria.

Musk, founder of xAI, accused Apple of "obvious anti-competitive violations," asserting that the company favors OpenAI. He raised legal questions about why Apple rejected adding X or his chatbot Grok to the "Must Have" section. Musk claims that X is "the best new app in the world," while Grok occupies the fifth position among all applications.

Apple states that no AI company, except for OpenAI, can achieve the top position in the App Store, which is a clear anti-competitive violation. xAI employs legal terms.

However, Musk has not provided any evidence for his accusations. Other AI applications not associated with OpenAI have also reached high positions in the App Store, including the Chinese DeepSeek, which has consistently ranked high, and Perplexity, which secured first place in India in July following the announcement of Apple's partnership with OpenAI.

OpenAI's General Director Sam Altman responded to Musk's criticism, calling it "outrageous," while noting that Musk himself uses X to undermine competitors. Musk responded, referring to him as "Sam Altman the Swindler" and stating that he "breaks just as easily as he breathes."
