On September 15, 2025, the presidents of the USA and Russia, Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin, will meet in Alaska to discuss the conclusion of the war in Ukraine. This meeting will take place in a strategically important location that symbolizes cooperation and superpower status between the two countries.
Trump stated that the negotiations will be centered on resolving the conflict that has been ongoing for 45 months. He noted that "we will return part of the territory" and "there will be an exchange of territories for the benefit of both sides." The geographical location of Alaska, which is situated approximately at an equal distance from Washington and Moscow, makes this place convenient for negotiations.
The choice of Alaska as the meeting place also has symbolic significance, given that Alaska was once part of the Russian Empire, which the USA purchased in 1867 for 7.2 million rubles. Russian media have positively assessed this decision, indicating the possibility of restoring dialogue between Moscow and Washington.
Security during the meeting is also an important factor, as Alaska has a small population, which facilitates control over the situation. However, Putin's presence in the USA has sparked protests due to his unpopularity among Americans.
China, for its part, will seek to capitalize on this meeting, as it may influence its relations with the USA. Chinese officials have expressed readiness to facilitate contact between Russia and the USA, hoping for positive results for politically regulating the conflict in Ukraine.
