Venus Williams Receives Invitation to US Open at 45 Years Old

Venus Williams is returning to Grand Slam tennis at the US Open after a two-year absence, having received an invitation to participate in the women's singles draw at the age of 45. She will become the oldest participant in the women's singles draw at this tournament since 1981, when Rene Richards was 47 years old.
Williams has already received an invitation from the U.S. Tennis Association to participate in mixed doubles events, which will take place next week. The women's singles competition will begin in New York on August 24.
The sportswoman holds seven titles at major tournaments in women's singles, including the US Open in 2000 and 2001, as well as 14 titles in women's doubles, all won alongside her younger sister Serena, plus two titles in mixed doubles. Serena Williams ended her career with 23 titles in women's singles after participating in the US Open in 2022.
