Hashem Abedi Charged with Murder in Officer Stabbing
- Abedi is charged in three counts of officer murder
- The incident occurred on April 12 at HMP Frankland
- Three officers sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized
Hashem Abedi, linked to the terrorist attack at the Manchester Arena, has been charged with three counts of murder following an incident in which four officers in custody sustained injuries in the maximum security custody.
The 28-year-old Abedi is also charged with assault, which resulted in bodily harm, and with possession of a knife or other weapon, following the incident that occurred at HMP Frankland in Durham on April 12.
The police counter-terrorism unit in the North East is conducting a "retrospective investigation" into the incident along with Durham police and HMP Frankland.
Abedi remains in custody and is due to appear at Westminster Magistrates' Court on February 18.
Three officers in custody were taken to the hospital with serious injuries following the incident.
