In New York, the premiere of the new special release from Apple TV+ titled "Snoop Dogg Presents: Summer Musical" took place, which is the first musical from "Peanuts" in 35 years. In this project, Charlie Brown and Snoop Dogg are sent to camp, showcasing their adventures and experiences.
Craig Schultz, son of "Peanuts" creator Charles Schultz, explained that his motivation has always been rooted in preserving his father's legacy. The musical features five songs, two of which were written by Jeff Morin, Allan Zakari, and Michael Winer, while three were written by Ben Fold.
The special release begins with how kids prepare for camp at Cloverhill Camp. Sally, Charlie's sister, is not very keen on the idea of spending summer at camp, and she expresses her doubts in the song "Maybe, Maybe Not."
The recurring theme of "Peanuts" is the fear of change and the unknown. Craig Schultz noted that Cloverhill Camp is based on a real camp, where he himself attended in childhood and where he did not feel comfortable.
While Sally gradually gets used to camp, Snoop Dogg finds what he considers to be a scam, while Charlie is designing that this summer might be the last for their beloved camp, should they not find a way to save it.
Charlie Brown proposes the idea of holding a benefit concert to raise funds, but the weather may disrupt their plans. Director Eric Vise noted that in this special release, Charlie Brown looks happier than usual, especially since he loves his camp.
This June marks the 75th anniversary of "Peanuts," and the musical features extensive branding, including products from Coach and Starbucks. Craig Schultz is already working on another animated musical with his son.
