President of the USA Donald Trump announced the laureates of this year's Kennedy Center Honors. Among them are well-known personalities such as actor Sylvester Stallone, singer George Strait, singer Gloria Gaynor, actor and comedian Michael Crawford, and the rock group KISS.
The ceremony will take place under the patronage of Trump, who himself became the head of the Kennedy Center after the dismissal of previous members. This decision has drawn criticism, as many believe it is an intrusion into the local environment. Trump stated that he plans a full reconstruction of the center, which receives federal funding.
At the event, Trump emphasized that "98% of those involved" were selected for the laureates. He also expressed dissatisfaction with the "vortex" of candidates he eliminated. Some laureates declined the award due to his leadership.
In addition, Trump announced that there will be a review of exhibitions at the Smithson Institute to ensure they reflect his vision of history. He noted that he plans to make the Kennedy Center a "pearl" of local arts and culture by the 250th anniversary of America in 2026.
