Liverpool signs defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma

Liverpool is nearing the completion of an agreement regarding the signing of defender Giovanni Leoni from Parma. The initial transfer fee is reported to be £26 million sterling (€35.2 million).

According to a report from The Athletic on August 12, Liverpool is actively trying to persuade Leoni to move to "Anfield". Although he wants a permanent deal, negotiations are ongoing.

Liverpool is considering the 18-year-old player as one of the most talented young defenders in Europe. The club's sporting director, Richard Hughes, is conducting negotiations with Parma's general director, Federico Cherubini, to finalize the details of the transfer.

Leoni made his professional football debut in August 2023, becoming the youngest player in Italy that season. In September 2024, he joined Parma, where he played 17 matches in Serie A last season.

Liverpool is looking for new defenders following the sale of Jarell Kuansaha to Bayer. The club is actively signing new players, including Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong, and also shows interest in Alexander Isak from Newcastle.

According to some reports, Liverpool proposes a compromise that would allow Leoni to remain at Parma under the conditions of a loan for the 2025/26 season to continue his development.
