U.S. President Donald Trump warned Russian President Vladimir Putin of serious consequences if he does not stop the war against Ukraine. This statement was made during a press conference that took place on September 13, 2025, preceding the scheduled meeting of two leaders on September 15 in Alaytsi.

In response to a question from journalists, Trump confirmed that if Russia does not halt its military actions, "there will be consequences." He also emphasized that these consequences could include sanctions and tariffs. "Yes, they will happen. I’m not going to discuss it. There will be very serious consequences," Trump stated.

Earlier, Trump had already expressed an ultimatum to Putin, demanding a ceasefire by September 8, and warned of the possibility of additional sanctions in case of refusal. Nevertheless, Russia continues to refuse to comply with the ceasefire, and Trump has not yet implemented sanctions.

U.S. Secretary of State Scott Bessent noted that the issue of potential sanctions could be one of the topics during the meeting between Trump and Putin.
