Kodak Reports Concerns About Possible Company Closure

  • Kodak announced a 12% decrease in revenue for the year 2025.
  • The company plans to pay off part of its debt using pension fund assets.
  • Kodak expects to complete the repayment of its debts by the end of 2025.

This was reported by ABC News, The Verge.

The Eastman Kodak Company, known worldwide for its film and imaging, founded in 1880, has reported concerns about a possible closure.

In a statement for the second quarter, published on September 13, 2025, Kodak reported "significant uncertainty regarding the company’s ability to continue its operations." According to their data, revenue is expected to decrease by 12%, amounting to $7 million, compared to $58 million in the second quarter of 2024.

The company stated that it plans to cover part of its debt obligations, which amount to nearly $500 million, using funds from the pension fund. Kodak expects to receive approximately $300 million from the pension fund's return by the end of 2025.

The company’s statement indicated that they are exploring the possibility of paying off part of the debt through its repayment terms, as well as in changes, extensions, or refinancings of its obligations. Kodak's Chief Financial Officer, David Bullwinkel, noted that the company will continue to focus on reducing expenses and transforming investments into long-term growth in the second half of the year.

In addition, Kodak announced plans to complete the process of returning funds by the end of 2025, after which the company will effectively be debt-free.

Kodak indicated that the term "going concern" in their financial statements is a standard disclaimer, as the debt must be repaid over the course of the year.

In recent years, the company has faced difficulties in transitioning from film to digital photography, including bankruptcy in 2012, but has since revived operations, focusing on new technologies and chemical materials.
