Kim Yo-jong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, dismissed claims by South Korea regarding the fact that North Korea has raised some of its nuclear threats on the border. In her statement, published on September 13, 2025, she called these statements "groundless" and confirmed that North Korea "did not remove any nuclear threats" and "has no intention of removing them."
These comments came after reports that North Korean troops reported that they had raised some nuclear threats on the border, which occurred after the dismantling of similar threats from the side of South Korea. The South Korean president Lee Jae-myung expressed hope for the resumption of dialogue between the countries.
Kim Yo-jong also noted that North Korea has no interest in resuming negotiations with the U.S. and South Korea, emphasizing that this issue will be enshrined in the constitution of the country. She accused the South Korean government of disinformation, stating that Pyongyang is reviewing the translation of propaganda from the side of Seoul as an act of aggression.
Residents of South Korean border areas, who live near the border, are alarmed by noise from nuclear threats, where North Korea was transmitting sounds of animals and other unusual noises. South Korean troops halted their transmissions in June 2024, hoping for a reduction in tension, but the situation at the border remains tense.
