Trump demands from Putin an unconditional ceasefire during negotiations
- Trump demands from Putin an unconditional ceasefire
- The USA is ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees outside of NATO
- The meeting between Trump and Putin will take place on August 15 without Zelensky
This is reported by Ukrayinska Pravda, RBC Ukraine.
On August 13, during a large-scale online meeting with European leaders and the President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, US President Donald Trump stated that during the meeting with Russian leader Vladimir Putin in Algiers, he would demand an unconditional ceasefire.
French Minister of Foreign Affairs Jean-Yves Le Drian reported that Trump emphasized that any negotiations regarding Ukrainian territory would only take place in the presence of Zelensky at the upcoming meeting with Putin.
Trump also announced that the USA is committed to a system of international security guarantees, developed by the countries of the coalition, which includes France, the United Kingdom, and Germany.
Zelensky emphasized that Trump is delaying his meeting with Putin in Algiers. During the conversation with European leaders on August 13, he stressed that territorial issues would not be discussed with anyone except Zelensky.
Trump is also ready to provide Ukraine with security guarantees, but not within NATO. If an agreement on a ceasefire is reached, the USA is ready to play a role in ensuring Kyiv's security against potential aggression from Russia.
Trump did not specify that he himself has in mind the guarantees of security, discussing only the general concept. The American president does not plan to continue arms supplies or military support to Ukraine, although, possibly, there will be supplies of European equipment for the use of Ukraine.
The meeting between Trump and Putin is scheduled for August 15, without the participation of Zelensky, which raises concerns in Europe regarding the future of Ukraine and European security that may be decided without direct involvement of Kyiv.
