The USA Temporarily Lifts Sanctions for Preparations for the Meeting in Alaska
- Sanctions are lifted for one week for preparations for the meeting
- The meeting between Trump and Putin will take place on September 15
- The EU supports Ukraine ahead of the negotiations
This is reported by Ukrinform, Ukrayinska Pravda.
The Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC) has temporarily lifted some sanctions against Russia to allow Russian officials to participate in negotiations in Alaska.
According to OFAC information, this applies to usual and necessary activities for participation in meetings between the U.S. government and the government of the Russian Federation in Alaska, permitted until 12:01 Eastern Time on September 20, 2025.
However, these temporary measures do not allow for the unblocking or release of any property that was previously subject to sanctions, nor activities unrelated to the meeting in Alaska.
Sanctions will be lifted for one week, prior to the meeting scheduled for September 15 between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin.
Before this meeting, EU leaders signed a statement supporting Ukraine, in which they emphasized that the path to a just and lasting peace in Ukraine cannot be defined without the participation of Ukraine itself.
